We are thrilled to partner with athlete and advocate, Kyah Simon, who joins us as Capspace’s Community Ambassador.

She joins Capspace with a shared vision to strengthen our existing community initiatives in helping younger generations grow, thrive, and develop to their truest potential.

Through our partnership with Kyah, we aim to scale our community impact, engage with and empower more young members of our community, and amplify our message in an effort to create positive and meaningful change.

"What excites me the most about joining Capspace is being able to make a difference and contribution to the community, including spreading awareness of Capspace’s Most Important Meal initiative, a program feeding school kids in less fortunate circumstances." - Kyah Simon.

Kyah Simon

Kyah SimonA proud Anaiwan and Biripi woman and professional footballer, Kyah is a defining force on the Matildas team.

She made history as the first Indigenous Australian to score at a FIFA World Cup and she led the Matildas to their first international trophy at the 2010 Asian Cup.

While known for her professional football achievements, she has become a positive role model on and off the field for her advocacy work, community outreach, and her dedication to championing social acceptance.

Kyah embodies leadership, resilience, and dedication, qualities that align with our goals of making a difference with the younger members of our community.

“I want to meet and inspire as many people as possible through various community initiatives, creating a lasting impact and legacy beyond the football pitch.” - Kyah Simon.

Capspace's mission

Our philosophy of ‘Helping Australians Succeed’ goes beyond our work as a private debt fund and extends into the community around us. From day one, we’ve dedicated a section of the company to community initiatives focused on helping young Australians grow, thrive, and achieve their truest potential.

Our mission is two-fold: to raise awareness of the challenges Australian children face today and develop sustainable solutions that create long-lasting change.

Kyah's dedication to social causes and commitment to making an impact align seamlessly with Capspace’s community initiatives, including Most Important Meal, which provides meals to school children across NSW who would otherwise go without.

We asked Kyah about joining Capspace, her motivations, and her vision for our community initiatives.

Why did you choose to work with Capspace?

The Capspace Community Ambassador role aligns with my own values and passion of wanting to help people and inspire younger generations. It also gives me the opportunity to connect with people from all different walks of life and backgrounds.

Hearing about Capspace's vision and initiatives captured my attention immediately and I knew we could make a difference together from the very first meeting I had with Julio, one of Capspace's directors.

"Our younger generations are our future leaders and I'd love for us to be able to say we had a positive impact, helping our kids make healthy decisions in their lives, to make for a better future." - Kyah Simon.

Why is giving back to the community important to you?

Growing up in Western Sydney with my family not having much money, I've seen firsthand how living situations, the environment, positive role models and the impact family decisions can have on children. Most of the time children don't have a say in that regard. So, if I can be a mentor or support in any way possible to anyone who might be searching for hope or need someone to believe in them, that's the greatest gift I feel I could give back.

What perspectives or experiences from your sporting career do you hope to bring to Capspace’s community initiatives?

Kyah Simon CapspaceThe perspective I can bring to this role is speaking to my own experiences, being a young First Nations Women, growing up in an era where females weren't meant to play football. We weren't taken seriously, acknowledged, or even accepted alongside the boys, and there weren't any female role models visible within football.

By sharing my experiences, I hope to show that you can achieve anything if you put your mind, heart and soul into it and pave the way in whatever path you choose to go down.

How has your journey with the Matildas shaped you on and off the field?

Football has taught me the values of working hard, staying committed, being dedicated to my goals, and the importance of selflessness, respect and resilience. It has shaped me into the person I am and provided me with invaluable tools to take into any other career path I choose.

What impact do you hope to achieve in this role?

I hope that whoever I have the chance to connect with and share my story and experiences with, it will have a lasting impact where in years to come they will reflect back to it as their moment of inspiration and hope to believe in themselves and go after their dreams.

We are proud to welcome Kyah to the Capspace team, united in our commitment to making a lasting and meaningful impact together in the community.
